Palmer Museum

.2022 Spring

For our spring studio project we were tasked with making a presenation for a new musuem on campus. During the semester we were able to talk with Holder and the current Palmer museum director as a class and ask questions about their wants and needs. From there we spent the entire semester planning, altering, and finally choosing and evolving a design we would present for our final. Below are the parts I worked on that I want to highlight.

There were so many parts of Blender and Photoshop that I had to learn on the fly during the spring semester. I used plugins to import actual height data from government databases into our digital model, plugins to put the sun in the exact right position accurate to the real world, and Photoshop tools I had never used to bring it all together. It truely was a learning experience at every step. I really couldn't have been more proud of my groupmates and how much work we put into our project. On top of that the feedback from our teachers was almost entirely positive and we had one of the highest grades in our class.

A requirement for our project was to build a minature model to scale. I took this task on for our group.

To get a unique look and to better understand the lighting situations I turned off the sun but kept the interior lights on.

Here's an example of one of the close up renders, this was my first time trying to make my own grass model and shader look real. It still doesn't look quite right, but over I was happy with the outcome.

Alumni Park Pavilion

.2021 Fall

For the final project of my studio class we had to create a pavilion. It was an open and only had two main criteria; don't make it a permanent feature and must be less than 1250 sq ft. This is what the group I was in came up with. My main tasks on the project were modeling and handing out the base renders to be brought into Photoshop. These are a couple of the renders I made from my Blender model.

Tutorials

.2021 Summer

This summer I made three tutorials for a techincal node networks in Blender. Each descibe a different methods to do a particular task using a visulized form of vector math and texture coordinates. All in an effort to make what would be an arduous task done by hand parametric and procedural.

Here is a few renders of me practicing hard surface modeling by using the SpaceX Starlink Terminal as an example. Also animations for these renders can be found here.

This started out as a simple modeling excercise, model a lightbulb. But it didn't take long for me to realize I could do something with this. So I put some time into this and ended up with some neat renders.

A fun project where I painted a butteryfly texture in Photoshop and applied it to a simple model in Blender.

.2020 July

Probably one of my longest projects to date. I spent an inordiante amount of time learing how to create foliage and get that right. Someday I hope to return to this project to improve it but today I am very happy with the result. As you may have noticed I used this render for the backround of my website.

A simple project on the surface, "It's just a bunch of rings, right? How hard can it be?" It's hard, there is a unbelievable amount of small details that make this cereal brand look realistic. But after a few attempts and tweaking in photoshop I got it to a point that is pretty close to the real thing.
